The district of Monte-Carlo (formerly called Mont-Charles) was named in honour of Prince Charles III of Monaco on 1 July 1866. It is the most famous district of the Principality of Monaco as it is one of the most attractive and touristic, notably thanks to the Casino of Monte-Carlo and its gardens which have been entirely redeveloped recently, but also to the numerous luxury shops, the Opera of Monte-Carlo, the Café de Paris and the Thermes Marins.
